Living with Americans
"Between the Pacific Ocean and the mountains you will find Santa Barbara, in Santa Barbara you find Isla Vista and I live in Isla Vista. Isla Vista is a student city where the average age is 20 years of age, we have 284 sunny days a year and 0 mm of snow. I share an apartment with three Americans who study at UCSB. I love living with Americans so that I get to learn even more English and learn more about their culture.
In my spare time I hang out at the beach, go to the gym and spend time with my friends. That is the best part of the experience, to meet people from different parts of the world. Acquaintances that I will cherish forever."
My courses at SBCC
"However, I am not here to tan, train and hang out with my friends, even if it could seem like it. I am here to study, which I do at Santa Barbara City College (SBCC). I am currently in my second semester and I love it. I study to take a Certificate in ’Marketing and Advertising’, it is a very interesting course and as long as you are structured and spend the recommended time on your studies, you will be fine. This semester I have four courses whereas two of them are hybrids and one is an online course which means that I have the opportunity to arrange my own time."
How I ended up in California
"Maybe you wonder how I ended up at SBCC in California? So I thought I would explain to you how that happened. I wanted to live my life, not just a life. I have previously visited Santa Barbara and I realized how relaxed the city is and I thought to myself ”f*ck it, let’s go.” Then I contacted KILROY but I had no idea about how and what to do and whether it was past the application deadline. Apparently, I had plenty of time to apply and Caroline from KILROY helped me with my application and how to register."
"Finally, I have to say that I am thrilled that I took the decision and went traveling. It is often easy to sit at home and think and dream about things you want to do, and not doing anything about it, but sometimes you just have to let go and do it!
I am so so happy for the friends that I have made for life here in Santa Barbara.
Take good care of yourselves!
Best wishes, from David"
