Remember that this is just a suggestion and that you can tailor this trip to your need. You start this adventure off in sunny Cape Town before heading out on the open road. You’re of course free to select the stops you want – but we recommend that you stop by all the top stops on the Garden Route. Keep reading to find out more about all the stops!

Cape Town

Start this adventure off by spending 3 days exploring the youthful city of Cape Town - we have arranged your accommodation. A must see is the view from Table Mountain, but make sure to check out the weather forecast before heading up to Table Mountain, you might not think it's worth the trip up if the visibility is bad because of fog. If the weather is on your side though, you should experience the sunset on Table Mountain (It’s challenging and fun to hike up/run up Table Mountain and then take the cable cart down). Maybe plan a visit to the famous Robben Island too? The place is full of history! Make sure to book your tour well in advance as ferry tickets including a guided tour sells out fast. Knysna, Tsitsikamma & Wilderness

Ready for some more adrenaline? If you continue along the Garden Route you’ll come to the charming laidback town of Knysna. The laidback atmosphere here is in stark contrast to the feeling you’ll have when you throw yourself off the Bloukrans Bridge – the world’s tallest bungee jump!
Tsitsikamma Wilderness is a beautiful area for (multi) day hiking, snorkeling & diving, kayaking, climbing, mountain biking, spotting wildlife.

Jeffrey’s Bay

This is yet another cute coastal town, that just goes by the nickname “J-Bay”. This place is ranked on the world’s top ten surf spots, so if you’re into surfing – this is the pace for you! It’ also a sunshine paradise where you’ll get to see dolphins and find cool surf shacks on every streetcorner. Chill at the beach with a Sundowner watching the surf pro’s play, go shopping in one of the many surfs outlet stores...

Port Elizabeth

You’re nearing the end of this road trip and the final stop: Port Elizabeth is also known as "the friendly town". This is the place to be if you enjoy diving or if you want to test out some sandboarding! The biggest highlight in Port Elizabeth is the Addo Elephant National Park, located about 40 minutes outside of the city.

Johannesburg Learn about Apartheid history

Johannesburg, or Jo'burg as the locals call it, is a city full of life and history. Start your visit at the Apartheid Museum to get a better understanding of South Africa's past. For a different kind of adventure, head to Gold Reef City, a theme park built on an old gold mine. If you're into art, the Maboneng Precinct is the place to be with its galleries, cafes, and street art. Don't miss a trip to the Soweto Township for a guided tour to see the famous Vilakazi Street, where Nelson Mandela once lived. There's always something to do and discover in Jo'burg.

Pilanesberg Can't do South Africa without a touch of safari

Pilanesberg National Park is a great spot for a safari adventure. Located just a couple of hours from Johannesburg, it's perfect for a day trip or a weekend getaway. The park is home to the Big Five—lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffalo—so you're in for some amazing wildlife sightings. Don't miss the chance to see animals gathering at the park's many waterholes, especially during the early morning or late afternoon. After a day of exploring, relax at your campsite inside the park. It's a fantastic way to experience the wild beauty of South Africa.

Have you ever thought about doing a road trip in South Africa? Well, this is the ultimate trip that gives you beautiful beaches, small coastal villages, impressive nature, and amazing wildlife. “The Garden Route” will give you the highlights of South Africa.

This travel suggestion starts in exciting Cape Town, where you’ll participate in some activities before jumping in your rental car. You'll be heading out on the open road and following highway 2 all the way to Port Elizabeth and beyond (if you'd like). It's worth leaving the highway for these highlighted stops: Hermanus, Oudtshoorn, Knysna, Jeffrey's Bay, Addo Elephant Park and Port Elizabeth. After driving the garden route, you drop off the car and catch a flight to Johannesburg. From here you will go on a 2-day safari in Pilanesberg, where you can spot the big 5 - if you're lucky of course! After a final night in Jo'burg it's time to wave goodbye to Africa and fly home...
