So, tell us, why did you decide to book the Tripmates tour?

A couple of years ago, I moved from Norway to Copenhagen, and when I moved, I made a list of all the things I wanted to do in my new life but I was a little scared to do before. Travelling solo was definitely one of them, so it had to happen at some point. It was actually a big step for me because I had never traveled alone before, let alone with a group like this. I've always considered myself a social person, but I didn't want to take a big solo trip, and at the same time, I didn't have anyone to travel with. So, Tripmates looked like the perfect opportunity to explore with people in my age group and go on an adventure. The social aspect was a big draw for me because I love meeting people to share experiences with.

I chose to go on a group trip because it felt like the best way to get the adventure I wanted without freaking out about traveling alone. Plus, having a mostly planned itinerary meant I could just relax and enjoy the experience without stressing over details.

And why did you choose this particular tour to Bali?

Does Bali ever need an explanation?! Okay, maybe there is one. After a family safari vacation in Africa, where we saw so many animals and were active all the time, I realized I didn't want to go back to the type of beach holidays where all you do is relax and sit in the sun. I've always been into animals and outdoor activities, so the combo of monkeys, snorkeling, surfing, and rafting sounded like my kind of paradise. Plus, trying new things is all part of the adventure, and it turned out to be a great way to break the ice with the others in the group.

How was the vibe with your group?

It was awesome! We had such a diverse group of people, which made for a really dynamic experience. I actually made two really good friends on the trip, and we still hang out, even though it's been over six months since we traveled together! We were great at hanging out together, whether it was for dinners, activities, or just chilling by the pool. We even had this rule where each new place we went to, one "room" was in charge of organizing a night out, whether it was hitting the clubs or having drinks by the pool. It was a fantastic way to bond and get to know each other. At first, people were a bit shy, but they really opened up as the trip went on.

I thought it would be socially exhausting to do group travel, but if I wanted to I could always retreat and take a moment for myself. On the flipside, if I wanted to, there was always someone to chat with, whether during the activities or just chilling at the end of the day.

One more thing I'd like to mention is that the group dynamic adds a layer of safety and support that is really comforting. We always had each other’s backs, during a tricky situation like when we almost got mugged. When dealing with a travel hiccup, or just needing someone to talk to, the support system is there for you.

What's your favorite memory from the trip?

Oh, there are so many! Gili Trawangan was definitely a highlight for me. The island was absolutely stunning, and the snorkeling was out of this world. We saw sea turtles and all sorts of colorful fish—it was like swimming in a living aquarium. And then there was Changgu, with its vibrant party scene. We had this epic night of partying on the beach—it was definitely the wildest night of the trip. But I think my absolute favorite moment was when I finally managed to stand up on a surfboard. It felt like pure euphoria, you know? Like I was on top of the world. It seemed so impossible at first, but when I finally did it, it was the most incredible feeling.

And would you recommend Tripmates to friends who are considering solo travel?

Absolutely! Especially for people like me who've never really traveled solo before and want to challenge themselves. I'm so happy I got out there, saw new places I most likely wouldn't have visited on my own, and met amazing people I wouldn't otherwise have met. Plus, the variety of activities they offer really made Tripmates an appealing package.

So yeah, I'd say go for it! If you’re still a little unsure, just know that a group trip can be the perfect mix of independence and support. It’s a great way to step out of your comfort zone while still having some sort of a safety net. You’ll meet a bunch of good people, see incredible places, and make memories that you will remember forever. And don’t worry about not knowing anyone beforehand; that’s the beauty of it. You’ll quickly form friendships that will make your travel experience even better!
